Yorkeys Knob Community Centre
The Yorkeys Knob Activities group Inc. is the voluntary Management
Committee of the Yorkeys Knob Community Centre and Parklands in Wattle Street. It is just one of the many community halls owned by the
Cairns Regional Council across Cairns.
The committee consists of Mrs Glenda Rowan (President), Mr Brian Hooley (secretary/Treasurer), Mr Wayne Le Clos (Vice President) and committee members Mrs June Corrie and Noel Gazzard (Caretaker). Councillor Jessie Richardson represents the Cairns Regional Council.
The committee is responsible for ensuring that the facilities and grounds are maintained and presented in a clean and orderly manner as to encourage
casual, informal and unstructured use by community groups, families, teenagers and children of the Yorkeys knob community and surrounding areas.
We also promote the use of social, cultural and learning activities and in this respect we have a wide range of user groups committed to yearly permanent. Usage of our hall, including the Yorkeys Knob Residents Association, The Yorkeys Knob Community Progress Association, Marlin Coast Day Care Centre, Cairns Dutch Club, Fun Art Group, The Benevolent Society, The American Car Club, Yoga groups, meditation, Qigong, Fitness & Boxing Groups, Toddler Music Classes and much more.
Each Year the Festival of the Knob is held during June in the well-shaded grounds of the centre. There you will find live music, giant slides, wandering clowns and a variety of stalls spread throughout the Old School Park, parklands.
We also hire out to private clubs and residents who wish to use the hall for meetings, weddings, engagement parties, funerals, children's birthday parties, fundraisers, anniversary and Christmas celebrations.
Set within the parkland grounds, the hall is inexpensive to hire and has kitchen facilities that cater for 60 people, ceiling fans, air conditioning, toilet and shower facilities with disabled access. There is also a piano, a whiteboard and full audio/visual facilities and tables and chairs
There is a tennis court, half basketball court, a BMX track and cricket pitch for community use and for pre-school to teenagers, there is a grade A adventure playground. All facilities are free to be used by the public.
