The Yorkeys Knob Activities Group Inc. is the voluntary Management Committee of the Yorkeys Knob Community Centre Hall and Parklands in Wattle Street. It is just one of many community halls owned by the Cairns City Council across Cairns.
The Committee consists of Mrs Glenda Rowan, (President), Mr Brian Hooley, (Secretary), Ms Heidi Widmar, (Treasurer), and committee members including Mr Wayne LeClos, M. Alan Cullington, Mrs June Corrie and Councillor Margaret Cochrane.
The committee is responsible for ensuring that the facilities and grounds are maintained and developed in a clean and orderly manner as to encourage casual,informal and unstructured use by the community groups,famlies,teenagers and children of the Yorkeys Knob community and surrounding areas.
We also promote the use of our social, cultural and learning activities and in this respect, we have a wide range of user groups committed to yearly usage of our community hall, including the Yorkeys Knob Residents Association, the Australian Red Cross, Yorkeys Knob State School, Yoga groups, Playgroups, Yorkeys Knob Youth Group, Tanks Art Centre (school holiday projects) and others utilizing our hall and grounds.
Each year during the Queens Birthday weekend, the Festival of the Knob is held in the well-shadded grounds of our centre..There you will find live music, giant slides, wandering clowns and a variety of stalls spread throughout the parklands.
We also hire out to private clubs and residents who wish to use the hall for Weddings, Engagements, Funerals, Birthday or Anniversary celebrations.
Set within the parklands, the hall is inexpensive to hire and has kitchen facilities that cater for 60 people, ceiling fans plus air conditioning and toilet facilities with disabled access.
Within the parkland grounds is a tennis court,half basketball court, a BMX track and cricket pitch for the community to use For pre-school playgroups there is a grade A adventure playground and barbeque facilities, all of which are free to use by the public.
This is a community asset set in beautiful surrounds and is available to all northern beaches communities.
Hire Fees
- Hall fees for non-profit community groups start at $10 per usage (max.3 hours)
- Governments and Corporate rates at $10 per hour on application.
- Children’s birthday parties rates are $15 per hour (min. 3 hours) plus cleaning if applicable.
